"The Managua Earthquake: A Test Case for Interacting Factors"

The Buffalo Association of Professional Geologists (BAPG) is pleased to announce that its monthly dinner meeting will be held at the Millennium Airport Hotel, located at 2040 Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga on April 12th, 2006. The topic of the dinner presentation and discussion will be "The Managua Earthquake (Nicaragua, December 23, 1972): A Test Case for Interacting Factors, presented by Dr. Charles H.V. Ebert, professor of Physical Geography at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Professor Charles H.V. Ebert is a Distinguished Teaching Professor of Physical Geography at the State University of New York at Buffalo. After starting out as a professor in the Geology Department, in 1963, he became the first chairman of the newly established Department of Geography. He headed the department until 1970, then moved on to serve as University Dean for Undergraduate Education until 1977.

He lectured to thousands of students in subjects such as physical geography, soils, land development, and environmental impact studies. Excellence of his teaching is reflected in having received two Chancellor’s Awards of Excellence in Teaching, Milton Plesur Memorial Teaching Award, and Teaching Achievement Award from the National Council for Geographic Education.

Fieldwork has taken Professor Ebert to Asia, Africa, Latin America, Australia and the Middle East, consulting to various agencies and governments. Professor Ebert’s keen assessment of the underlying causes and results of natural and human-induced disasters is noteworthy.
