President's Report
· Symposium Results
· $5,251.95 Expenses
· $9,305.00 Total Revenue
· $4,053.05 Net Profit
· BAPG passed a vote to donate approximately 50% ($2,000) of the Symposium Net Profits to NYSCPG (and become a platinum member).
· BAPG passed a vote on Student Free Dinner Protocol - new student members will be required to pay $10 for first dinner, if membership application is approved, student member will be entitled to a free dinner at the following meeting.
· BAPG regretfully did not approve a donation to Gary Lash mainly because BAPG does not have a policy for award of research grants - BAPG will establish guidelines for research grants and Lea will send a letter to Gary Lash informing him of the outcome of the vote.
· BAPG night out - continuing to discuss potential of talk by Wilson Greatbach (Rick Watt), Pete Welsby suggested a Whirlpool Jet outing. Night out committee: Lea, Gene, and Francine.
· BAPG passed vote on holding raffles at the meetings, starting with the April meeting - RSVP's received by Friday prior to meeting will get a ticket for the raffle (winner can choose a beer mug, hat, or tote bag). Rick and Pat will include the announcement in the Geogram and website, respectively.
Gene announced, via email, that there was $6,082.56 in the checking account and $2,729.19 in the CD.
· Visits to Buffalo State and UB will be scheduled after spring break.
· We passed a vote on moving the scholarship awards to the fall. This way the student clubs will have most of the year to spend the money. A new student involvement committee will be established in May and the letters will be mailed early is September. Then we can award the scholarships by November. We also discussed presenting the checks in person during the November meeting when they do their poster presentations to us (this way they have an incentive to communicate with us and we get to take photos of presenting them with their checks). However, it may not be the best idea since they will not be able to present on how they used the money for, so they will have to present on something they have done in the past as a club.
· Discussed March 10, 2003 TSC meeting.
· Patrick Filey and Dino Zack attended meeting.
· Next TSC meeting scheduled for May 12, 2003.
· BAPG Earth Science Day committee (Jerry Bastedo, Rick Watt, and Dino Zack) met March 13 - Dan Riker volunteered to help.
· Committee looking for ideas and additional help from BAPG members.
· Details regarding BAPG booth at the Earth Science Day will have to be discussed during the next BAPG meetings and we will need volunteers to staff the booth as well as come with ideas for the booth and children's activities.
· Deadline - March 28, 2003.
· The report was submitted electronically and includes such info, as there were 1,226 site-wide hits in February 2003. The symposium page was one of the more popular pages visited.
· Lea wrote and submitted a letter of support for the NYSCPG licensing bill.
· Original and revised version of the BAPG brochure was distributed by Lea for review - mark-ups will be returned to Rick at the April BAPG meeting.
· Lea and Stephanie will work on the directory during the month of April and aim for a May distribution.
· Corporate Membership activity is postponed until fall, to coincide with solicitation of advertisers.
